Why The Living Tree Exists
In Lomé, many children face enormous barriers to safety, education, healthcare, and opportunity. Children living on the streets are especially vulnerable, and girls often face additional challenges that limit their futures.
The Living Tree was created to respond with compassion, practical support, and long-term commitment.

We throw open the classroom doors for girls who have been locked out of the school system due to extreme poverty. The Living Tree Foundation covers 100% of school fees, uniforms, textbooks, and learning supplies, removing the financial barriers that keep girls on the street. By placing girls aged 4 to 11 into safe, structured learning environments in Lomé, we give them the tools to build literacy, discover their potential, and permanently rewrite their futures.
Survival on the streets leaves deep physical and emotional scars that no child should have to carry. Our dedicated medical teams provide immediate crisis healthcare, treatment for severe malnutrition, routine vaccinations, and ongoing health tracking. Alongside physical healing, we deliver compassionate, trauma-informed psychological therapy to help these young girls process their street experiences and safely rebuild their sense of trust and security.
Our outreach teams walk the streets of Lomé every single day to meet vulnerable children exactly where they are. We provide immediate safety, clean water, and one nutritious meal a day to eliminate the constant desperation of hunger. By establishing a reliable, trustworthy presence on the street, we create a vital bridge that gently guides these young girls away from danger and into our comprehensive network of long-term care and rehabilitation.
We believe that rescuing a girl is only the first step; true transformation happens when she recognizes her own power. Through tailored mentorship, leadership workshops, and life-skills training, we teach our girls about their rights, their worth, and their capabilities. By nurturing their confidence and voices from a young age, we are raising a resilient new generation of educated Togolese women who will lead, inspire, and uplift their entire communities.

Our Collective Impact
Hello, my name is Luna, founder of The Living Tree Foundation.
Every morning before sunrise, Ophelia wakes up not to prepare for school, but to help her mother sell plantain fritters on the streets of Lomé. While other children begin their school day, Ophelia walks through the neighbourhood carrying a bucket on her head, helping her family survive after the loss of her father.
One day, I asked Ophelia what she wanted to become when she grows up.
“I want to be a nurse,” she said quietly, “because I want to look after children, like I look after my brothers.”
But without access to education, that dream risks fading away.
Sadly, Ophelia’s story is not unique. Thousands of children face barriers no child should have to overcome—poverty, lack of education, unsafe living conditions, and vulnerability to exploitation.
That is why The Living Tree exists.
